My freezing toes curl within the flats pressed close to the space heater again, though this time I can’t tell if it’s because of a misguided anxious part of me or just the air conditioner being extra icy today. Either way, I pray Jenna stays busy gossiping with Kelly, so my body has enough time to heat up before she says something.

If you were with Grim, this wouldn’t be a problem.

The memory of our evening together elicits a quiet hum of contentment as a tingle of awareness blooms between my thighs.

Stop it! You can’t think of sex while at work. Focus on something else.

If you taught dance, your toes and everything else wouldn’t have time to get cold.

That’s better. Safer. Dance over Grayson.

Besides, ever since the suggestion of teaching came up, my thoughts kept circling back to it. Dancing or teaching won’t cure my anxiety, but having a job I love is bound to improve my mental health.

It’s not guaranteed since I’ve never taught a class in my life. It could be terrible. Worse than what I’m currently doing.

Maybe instead of diving into the deep end, I should take baby steps and test the waters.

Biting my lip, I grab my phone and text my cousin Natalie. She leases a studio in Suitor’s Crossing for her yoga classes. Perhaps she’ll let me host a free dance clinic or something to gauge interest—mine and the town’s.

Of course, if it all works out, that means a move to Suitor’s Crossing.

I’ll be closer to Caroline, but further from Kat and Beth who live in Everton like me.

I’ll also be closer to my extended family, Winston and Natalie.

My phone rings, and I immediately answer. “That was fast.”

“When my favorite cousin mentions possibly switching careers, you bet your ass I’m gonna work fast. You could help me with the goats, I can learn some sexy dance moves, and we could be roommates. It’s a win all around!” Natalie’s excitement is catching even if everything is theoretical at this point.

“I’m not promising anything with the goats.” One of her most popular classes is goat yoga with baby goats prancing around the studio and climbing on clients. “But I like the sound of being roommates. You’ve always been the sister I never had.”

A flurry of click-clacks sounds in the background before Natalie says, “There’s a Saturday free next week if you want to use it. We can spread the word about inclusive dance classes that welcome people of all sizes and talent levels. Oh! Maybe it can be like an informal dance party where you show us some moves, and we can have Buttercream Dreams bake some cute cupcakes and…”

Natalie continues spit-balling ideas while I envision a group of young men and women finding a safe place to express themselves in a class under my tutelage—a contrast to what I grew up with.

It sounds amazing. And terrifying.
